Localization (L10n) Style Guide

In case the client does not provide a specific project localization style guide, we developed our own style guide to ensure the consistency and high quality of our product.

The guide is consisted of:

1. A language style guide for technical text, software on-line help, user interfaces, subject titles, operation instructions, references, and so on.
2. Style for sentence structure.
3. Usage of terminology.
4. Dedicated terms used for software localization.
5. Standard formats for copyright information, numbering, date and time, measurement unit, and punctuation.
6. Conventions for name translation (geography, people, company, products, etc.)
7. Conventions for keeping English as it is.
8. Layout formatting.
9. Punctuation.
10. Table of contents, index, numbering, footers, headers, callouts.

Translation style should satisfy the needs of the end reader; the language style of technical documents is not same as the language style of a user's guide for a household appliance, or student materials. Translation is not just translating the words.
